Holden 6VD1 & 6VE1 Timing Belt Installation Caution

TIMING BELT INSTALLATION CAUTION FOR 6VD1 & 6VE1 ENGINES

Due to the uneven gear ratio between camshafts & sprocket idler shafts, correct cam timing may have been lost if the cylinder heads have been overhauled or if the timing belt has broken.

Set alignment of camshafts as follows:-

Turn the drivers (RHS) side cam sprocket clockwise until the cam sprocket springs into position with the timing marks aligned. This may take up to 9 revolutions.

Turn the passenger (LHS) cam sprocket clockwise until the cam sprocket springs into position approximately 10 o’clock this may require up to 9 revolutions then turn sprocket a further 90 degrees clockwise until the timing marks align.

IMPORTANT:- If this procedure is not adhered to camshaft timing may be incorrect & serious engine damage or driveability problems may occur. If fitting a genuine timing belt the word ISUZU should be readable from the front of the engine.
